Top 5 Cybersecurity Threats to Watch This Week

1. 23andMe Fallout Expands: Targeted DNA Phishing

Criminals are leveraging the fallout from the 23andMe breach to send personalized phishing emails. These emails often mention shared ancestry or health conditions to trick users into clicking.

What to do: Avoid clicking on genetic or health alerts via email. Access your account directly through the 23andMe website, and talk with family members who’ve submitted DNA kits.

2. Google Chrome Exploit Actively Exploited (CVE-2025-19324)

A new Chrome zero-day is being used to run malicious code on victim machines via booby-trapped websites.

What to do: Update Chrome now (Settings → About Chrome → Check for updates). Enable “Enhanced Protection” in Chrome’s security settings.

3. DocuSign Phishing Campaign Hits Small Businesses

Attackers are spoofing DocuSign emails with fake "sign this document" links that steal credentials or install malware.

What to do: Verify all DocuSign requests by logging into your DocuSign account directly — not through the email link. Check the sender’s email address carefully.

4. AI Resume Scams on LinkedIn and Indeed

Scammers are posting fake job listings asking for resumes that get analyzed by “AI,” but the goal is to steal personal info or infect your device.

What to do: Only apply to verified company listings. Avoid uploading resumes through external links, and never send sensitive data through insecure forms.

5. WhatsApp “Backup Lure” Scam Targets iPhone Users

Users are receiving scam messages urging them to “restore your WhatsApp backup” using malicious links.

What to do: Only use iCloud to restore backups, and never click restore prompts unless you initiated the process. Delete unknown messages and report the sender.

Cyber Tip of the Week

Audit Your App Permissions: Check your phone settings and revoke access to your microphone, camera, or location for apps that don’t need it. Privacy is protection.
